Tjitte Bootsma - obituary

Picture
I.S.U.K today learnt of the untimely passing of Dutch Ice Speedway rider, Tjitte Bootsma, who had been suffering from a long-term illness.

'Tibo' as he was affectionately known, started racing on the Ice in 1985 and continued racing into the early 2000's.
He was perhaps better known for the design and development of lightened ice speedway bike frames which, amongst many others, have ridden Nikolay Krasnikov to each and every of his World Championship crowns.
TIBO frames remain extremely popular now, and , I am sure, will continue to keep Tjitte's legacy going from strength to strength.

Tjitte was just 56 years old. RIP.

lee richardson - 25/4/1979 – 13/5/2012

Picture
I.S.U.K would like to express it's most sincere heartfelt condolences to the family and many friends of Team GB Speedway rider, Lee Richardson.  As many of you will no doubt already know, Lee tragically died on 13th May, following a crash during a Polish League meeting in Wroclaw.
Lee leaves behind a wife and three young sons.
Lee most recently rode for the Lakeside Hammers in the British Elite League, Rzeszow in the Polish Ekstraliga and Vargana in the Swedish Elitserien.
He was crowned the World Under-21 Champion in 1999.
He was a strong-willed and genuine individual who always spoke out for the good of our wonderful Sport.

Enjay Designs have commissioned a special t-shirt which all fans (whether in Europe or beyond) can purchase online, with all funds going directly to the Richardson family via a fund set up by Lakeside Hammers Speedway.  Our readers can help this worthy cause by clicking this link.

RIP Rico - forever in the hearts of Speedway fans far and wide.

LIVE WEBCHAT WITH THE WORLD CHAMP

Picture
ISUK has tonight received details of a live webchat and video conference to be held with 8-time, outgoing World Champ, Nikolai Krasnikov on 25th April - full details of this event can be found by clicking this link to the ISUK forum - get your questions in to the legend as soon as possible!

KRASNIKOV WINS RECORD 8TH TITLE....
                                    .....THEN DULY RETIRES

Picture
The Master, the Genius, the undisputed King of the Ice - all titles befitting of an EIGHT-time World Champion.
On the final day in Uppsala, Sweden, both Nikolay and Daniil Ivanov made the semi-finals (both of which looked very even in terms of strength), but, crucially, Ivanov failed to qualify for the final, paving the way for Krasnikov to scoop the title, regardless of where he was ultimately placed.
For the record, however, he finished 3rd, behind Dmitri Khomitsevich and eventual winner, Sergei Karachintsev.
All this meant that Krasnikov took his eighth World title, with a 12 point gap back to runner-up Daniil Ivanov.  3rd place overall went to Dmitri Khomitsevich, who finished just 2 points further behind.  Results  breakdown from Uppsala, and final placings can be found on the ISUK forum.

Furthermore, the Master apparently announced to sections of the media, on the podium, that he would be retiring from World competition with immediate effect.
In statements which were later confirmed, it transpires that whilst he will indeed be retiring from the World Individual Championship circuit, he still intends to race domestically in the Russian Super-League (and presumably other domestic competitions), and will still likely be seen representing Russia at the World Team Championships in 2013.

Nikolay - we at ISUK and throughout the Ice Speedway community salute you, and will always appreciate having seen your criminally under-publicised talents and achievements live on display.
ISUK looks forward to a seeing a new World Individual Champion crowned next season - so exciting!

IVANOV CLOSES THE GAP IN ASSEN (17/03/12)

Picture
Daniil Ivanov continued to keep the pressure up on compatriot, and defending World Champion, Nikolay Krasnikov, by winning in Saturday's Final at DeBonte Wever, Assen.
Having taken 2nd place overall on Friday, Ivanov went one better today to close to within just 4 points of Ivanov, with one round remaining of the Championship.
Franky Zorn returned to some sort of form, by finishing top of the non-Russians over the two days.
A full breakdown of the weekend's results from Assen can be found by clicking this link to the ISUK forum.

kosov takes european crown (12/03/12)

Picture
A new Star is born!
20-year-old Russian, Vasili Kosov pipped Austrian, Harald Simon, and fellow compatriot youngster, Artjom Novik to win the UEM European Ice Speedway Championship with a fabulous maximum points total score.
Simon, finishing as runner-up, put in an impressive display of aggressive, determined riding to prove his credentials, as, arguably, the best of the current non-Russian riders.
Having been one of three riders to finish on 12 points, Russian youngster Novik managed to grab the final podium place, fortuitously beating off Bulankin and Zorn in a race-off.
A full breakdown of the heat scores and final result can be viewed by clicking this link.

RUSSIA - 2012 WORLD TEAM CHAMPIONS

Picture
As predicted by most, Russia comfortably secured the Ice Speedway Gladiators World Team Championship in some style - just 1 point off of a maximum total score (59 points)!
Austria finished a whopping 15 points back to confirm the runner-up spot, with the Czech Republic just pipping Finland to the post for 3rd place, a further 7 points behind.
In a surprising twist, the mantle of highest individual scorer went to Finland's Antti Aakko, who scored an impressive 28 points.
Congratulations then to Russia (again!) - we look forward to the 2013 competition, and topping the fantastic 6,000 crowd at Togliatti this weekend.
A full breakdown of the results can be found on the I.S.U.K forum, by clicking this link.

Krasnikov wins (again) in ufa

Picture
Can anybody realistically stop this man?!
Nikolay Krasnikov won on both days of Round 2 of the FIM Ice Speedway Gladiators World Championship in Ufa, Russia.
Krasnikov's cause was assisted by a nasty-looking injury to Daniil Ivanov during the 2nd semi-final on Day 1, which put paid to his closest rival's chances of a trophy on Saturday.
All this means that Krasnikov now leads the overall Championship by a narrow 2 point margin from compatriot Ivanov, with Dmitry Khomitsevich a further 7 points behind in 3rd place.
Full results breakdown can be found by clicking this link.
The updated Championship standings can be found by clicking this link.
